Founder and creative director of the fashion label Born Different, Kilta is a young artist born and raised in western North Carolina. While his main passion is fashion design, he has a deep fascination for architecture and interior design, leading him to begin work on homeware inspired by brutalism with elements of minimalism and wabi sabi. Brutalism is an architectural style that emerged during the 1950s among the reconstruction projects of the post-war era. Brutalist buildings are characterized by minimalist constructions that showcase the bare and raw structural materials over decorative design. The style commonly makes use of exposed, unpainted concrete or brick, angular geometric shapes and a predominantly monochromatic color palette; other materials, such as steel, timber, and glass, are also featured.

I believe in the embrace of intensity, to regard harsh emotion is to accept reality, while my creations may embody this, they are a vessel that is hollow, void of life and emotion until they are filled by the warmth and energy of the space you provide. They are a number until given a name. – kilta
